I still really like this one that you pitched to me originally, Bita... It feels like it has a nice parlance to efforts at Current TV and such, and could center a united front for regularly supporting and encouraging women to further document and describe their situations.
Kat, I think you definitely have a point. That's why we like this approach - rather than us choosing a project in the isolation of a boardroom, you get a voice in the process. You can rally your friends to vote up the idea you like, or, in this case, vote down the one you don't. Thanks for your input!
I love that this idea has the potential to not just increase awareness of the status and lives of women in different communities, but also to raise up female leaders and role models from within the communities themselves.
Please forgive me if this seems harsh, but this idea seems to me more like a chance for people with privilege to feel better about themselves by "doing something", without actually accomplishing that much for the women they claim to be supporting, or even soliciting their opinions on the matter.
I see the appeal in this idea, though I wonder whether the offense it could cause to women who wear hijabs out of devotion would win out over the positive message it seeks to bring.

interesting to think about what a "guided experience" would look like...similar to known mentoring programs? Big Bibi-Lil Bibi sounds fun, tapping into local and existing programs for girl empowerment.

Do it!
This is my most favorite idea. Love it completely. Yes Yes Yes. It empowers women, and in effect also educates anyone.
I love it!
I don't really like this idea. It may be a "fun" outing, but I don't see much use or lasting effect to come out of it.

It's all about the veil...ever since Tahirah took hers off...so bring them on! maybe veil optional like some beaches where clothing is. Aloha
Would it be best to tap into local and existing programs, or to forge a new path? I wonder which programs come to mind when people hear "mentorship."

Guided experience in the wider world... as in a "year of service"
Cool! Working on a blog post for the project... Anything beyond what's available that could help me promote what's happening?
The primary goal is to develop project ideas based on what has made others feel empowered, but feel free to discuss whatever you'd like!
